PENN-MAHONING AMBULANCE KICKS OFF DRIVE

The Penn-Mahoning Ambulance is conducting its annual membership drive for 1987-88.

The cost of the membership is a donation which provides up to 90 miles of free service. More than 90 miles, the charge is $1 per load mile. Non-members will be charged $1 per load mile with a $20 minimum charge.

The ambulance’s coverage area includes the townships of Mahoning, West Penn, East Penn and East Brunswick.

The sponsoring organizations of the association are the Mahoning Valley Fire Co., Andreas Fire Co., Community Fire Co. in New Ringgold, and Mahoning Township, West Penn Township and Little Schuylkill Lions Clubs.

During 1986, mutual aid agreements were signed with ambulance associations at Mahoning Valley, Tamaqua and Orwigsburg. The corps will be signing an agreement with Northwestern Ambulance Association in the near future.

A mutual aid agreement with another corps provides a back-up ambulance if needed, and guarantees that no fee will be charged the patient if an ambulance other than their own takes them to a hospital.

Active corps members include 17 emergency medical technicians and 30 others who are trained in advanced first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation. The corps has two first aid and four CPR instructors as active members.

Officers for 1987 are Don Hoppes, president; Dolly Fritz, vice president; Don Handwerk, treasurer; Kay Becker, secretary; Wayne Troxell, captain; Gus Lewis, Frank Baker II and Cyndy Kleckner, lieutenants; Mark Hayman, education officer; Chuck Pollock, supply officer; Gail Handwerk, communications officer; Kay Becker, David Tyson and Anita Fritz, board of governors, and Rose Bednarik, file clerk.
